 Dubai General information

Situated on the Arabian Peninsula, Dubai is a vibrant cosmopolitan city that has fast become a major tourist destination, with the busiest airport in the world. It is a glittering city that offers golden beaches and year-round sunshine; world-class shopping, dining and nightlife; electrifying events and sporting championships; and, for all the family, is one big adventurous playground! It is a city where tradition meets ambition and is renowned for its futuristic architecture, it is a city that welcomes travellers with open arms, whether as a stopover en-route to Europe, or a family holiday by the beach – there is something for everyone.

Only 45 years old, Dubai is growing year-on-year with new attractions and hotels opening all the time. This year, some of the destinations biggest attractions have launched, offering travellers even more excitement and reason to visit this ever-changing metropolis.

Bringing culture to the region, Dubai Opera launched in Downtown Dubai. Shaped like a traditional Dhow, this architectural beauty sits in central Downtown Dubai overlooking the Fountains and Burj Khalifa, with a packed schedule of performances from Opera to Ballet, and Classical to Musicals. The multi-purpose venue is a new jewel in the city.

For the families, Dubai launched four new theme parks. The World’s largest indoor theme park, IMG Worlds of Adventure opened its doors to the public of all ages, with five entertainment zones including attractions from Marvel Comics and The Cartoon Network. Families can enjoy over 20 rides and attractions within the compound, 28 original food and beverage offerings, 25 retail outlets and a 12-screen state-of-the-art Novo Cinema.

In addition to IMG Worlds of Adventure, another entertainment complex launched in the form of Dubai Parks and Resorts (DPR). The newest attraction in Dubai, DPR opened with three theme parks on one complex, and includes a hotel offering families the chance to wake up in the parks.

DPR is home to Legoland, the regions’ first park dedicated to the much-loved toy; Bollywood Park, which is a world first; and Motiongate, a theme park dedicated to some of Hollywood’s biggest studios, including Dreamworks and Lionsgate. Riverland is a themed, fun, dining and retail destination connecting all of the parks, which visitors can access without purchasing a ticket!

After three years of construction, the Dubai Canal is also finally open, transforming the city and opening up new areas for dining and retail outlets. But in a city of innovation, the 3.2 kilometre-long canal also offers amazing views of the city, with smart technologies everywhere. Visitors will find phone charging stations, solar-powered streetlights, and cascading waterfalls from bridges.

From new attractions to new hotels, the city is constantly evolving and changing, offering travellers so much more than just a 24-hour stopover. With a gastronomic culinary scene that attracts some of the world’s top chefs, to desert adventures and adrenalin-pumping activities from dune-buggying over the orange sands, to flyboarding around Dubai Marina, or sky-diving over The Palm. Dubai is more than just a one-time destination.
